Asean is about to get an annual world class showcase for its burgeoning fashion design industry.
The inaugural Asean Fashion Week 2012 will be held from September 10 to 16 in Kuching City, Sarawak, Malaysia.
Asean Fashion Week 2012 is a seven day, six nights event comprising 10 by-invitation-only fashion themes of main stage runway and exhibition shows, exclusive after parties and three full day fashion workshops.
Designers will participate from Asean member nations - Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Japan is also participating this year, expressing interest for main stage runway shows and conducting exhibitions into the use of technology within fabrics, revolutionising the textile industry on a whole.
Asean Fashion Week 2012 will also be part of the World Fashion Week run up. The alliance formed with the World Fashion Organisation, World Fashion Week and World Fashion Exhibitions would set the precedent for Asean Fashion Week 2012 to be the fifth biggest fashion week in the world after the leading four fashion weeks held globally.
The World Fashion Organisation is the world’s largest, non-profit and private fashion entity serving World Fashion Association, World Fashion Network and World Fashion Week around the world under the motto 'World Fashion All'.
World Fashion Organisation’s goal is to establish, no later than year 2013, a national chapter in every country. The Asean event will rotate annually among Asean member states.
