Harris Scarfe sold
Posted Date: 03/08/2012
By Inside Retail

In this week's Inside Retail Digital Weekly, we reveal the identity of the international buyer of the iconic Harris Scarfe department store chain, as well as its intentions for the retailer's future.

Meanwhile, another acquisition of some local names - Witchery and Mimco is underway, with one party making a humble exit from these fashionable operators.

There's troubled times for two Australian chains: one in the pet industry and the other in chocolate. Sales may have gone through the roof for Darrell Lea since its woes were made public, but the news for employees this week hasn't been quite as sweet.

From overseas operators, we have stories of a British name, WHSmith, expanding further into Australia, along with AX, Mulberry, and another very big name in fashion: Topshop.

We feature the birth of this chain in Australia following a conversation with retail stalwart, David Slade.
