Starbucks India in rapid rollout

Coffee giant Starbucks is aggressively expanding in India to capture a bigger slice of the market.

Starbucks, through its partner Tata Global Beverages, has opened seven new stores during the last 45 days alone, taking the store count to 43 since debuting in the country in October 2012.

The company says India and China will be its two largest markets outside the US in the not too distant future, opening thousands of stores in each market.

Its expansion comes at a time other international coffee chains are experiencing tough times in India such as Australian Gloria Jean’s which is planning to end its seven-year partnership with Dubai-based company Landmark Group.

British Costa Coffee is also seeking to break with New Delhi-based Devyani International while Italian Lavazza is selling its Barista chain in India.
