Suning plans massive expansion

China’s largest retailer Suning has committed to opening 200 new stores in 2014.

It also opened a new operations centre to bolster its offline-to-online (O2O) business model.

The retailer has in recent months closed 150 of its 1474 stores, however, 54 new outlets have opened in better locations.

Last year, it expanded into the US by setting up an R&D centre in Silicon Valley, California.

Meanwhile, its rival, Gome, plans to shutter 50 stores in China this year, but, will open between 80-100 in second and third tier cities.
